Terry Gross interviewed Kiss leader Gene Simmons yesterday, confirming my lifelong disgust at that lame band. Not only did Simmons behave obnoxiously -- he seemed miffed that Terry wasn't groveling before the power of his overwhelming masculinity and insistent on showing that he too could use "big words" -- but he admitted that it was never about the music. In fact, according to Simmons, the only reason anyone ever plays music in public is to get laid (except maybe for homosexuals). Unfortunately he wimped out and withheld permission to put the interview in the Fresh Air archive.
There were camp 70's bands which deserve a nostalgic revival, but Kiss is not one of them.
[Addendum: Someone managed to grab the interview off the air and post an MP3 to Usenet, which is at least temporarily available here. Enjoy.]
