$newsid = ''; ?> Whump.com reports on a campaign to send rice to the White House in protest of the war on Iraq. The rice should be accompanied with a note like this:
"If your enemies are hungry, feed them." Romans 12:20This sounds like a fine idea, especially for faith-based peace groups. But in the light of last year's anthrax scares, I wonder what the Administration's response will be? Will every envelope of rice you send result in a panic at your local Post Office and a visit to your door by the FBI? Maybe that's part of the point, I don't know.
Please send this rice to the people of Iraq; do not attack them.
(Bill Humphries of Whump also smells the whiff of an urban legend about the claim that a previous rice campaign twice "kept Eisenhower from going nuclear during a fight over a couple of islands in the Taiwan Straits". If forced to guess I'd say he's got a good nose.)
