$newsid = ''; ?> The Greatest American Heroes is the name of an Austin band with a great schtick: they specialize in covers of TV theme songs, along with surf tunes and originals. I heard them on KOOP's Lounge Show one Saturday morning and managed to get ahold of their demo CD, a charmer whose high points include a loungey "Welcome Back" (as in Welcome Back Kotter) and a sprightly "Munsters Theme" with a killer bass solo. With guitar-bass-drums plus trumpet, sax and vocals they're able to cover a good bit of stylistic range within their chosen genres. Their website (requires Flash) doesn't list any upcoming shows, but it does include several MP3s for downloading. Here's hoping they start getting regular gigs and turn that demo into a properly engineered release before much longer. They deserve a cult following.
