$newsid = ''; ?> An Austin outlet for my ongoing Brazilian music obsession: Mosquitos will be playing Thursday 10/16/03 at Waterloo Records.
Mosquitos is the name of a sweet little gringo-carioca-gringo indie-pop trio from New York City. They probably shouldn't be called full-fledged MPB but being fronted by a breathy Brazilian singer gets them halfway there. You can hear various samples from their self-titled release, hear three tracks in somewhat better fidelity on Mosquitos' own website or better yet you can download a whole MP3 of their song Boombox for free.
The show is scheduled for 7:00 PM as part of Waterloo's "Third Thursday" series. There will even be free beer on hand. How can you go wrong?
(P.S. And for real Austin Brazilian music, don't miss Susanna Sharpe's current outfit Catavento playing Fridays at the Tree House Italian Grill on South Congress, among other dates. There's an impressive number of Catavento MP3s available for free download, too, but like most Austin bands they're much better live.)
