$newsid = 'roXg8.55056$Dh.5448901@bin2.nnrp.aus1.giganews.com'; ?> Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me" has been released and I'm afraid I have to agree with the promising but reserved review at Amazon. I suppose after her work with Charlie Hunter I was hoping for more of a jazz treatment of her remarkable voice. Instead it's mostly a singer-songwriter take on originals by Jones and her band -- not bad material, but nothing especially memorable. Fortunately a couple of covers stand out: she puts an original haunting twist on Hank Williams' "Cold, Cold Heart" and a lovely solo arrangement of "The Nearness of You" shows what she can do with a standard.
The anticipation isn't over, though. She has several Austin appearances scheduled for this spring and I wouldn't be surprised if she makes me forget all my reservations in a live setting.
