Help bring Frump to Austin

My sister's band Frump wants to play in Austin during South by Southwest. Does anybody know of any sideshow events or non-SxSW venues which would be interested in booking an all-mom garage band from Dallas? They've been getting a lot of press lately and you can hear a very brief audio sample.

Two years back I blogged a short list of counter-SxSW festivals (South by South First, South by North Loop, Yeast by Mouth Beast, etc.). In 2004 the site South by So What? compiled a full schedule of alternative events. It doesn't seem to be updated yet this year.

So... Anybody have any suggestions, or know of a comparable list for 2005?

Im sorry I dont really have any help P. They might try talking to Craig (the manager) at the Greenville B&G on Lower Greenville. He's really well connected with the club owners both here in Dallas and in Austin it seems.(as well as to most of the bands and musicians) He woulnt be the type to mind if a complete stanger came up to him and asked if he might help. Free soul, if you know what I mean.

When they get to NYC if they need to use the subway tell them about this site:
Mapquest, but for people who take the subway in New York.

If I can help more in a way I have not thought of please feel free to email me.

We should get 'em out here for the Coney Island Mermaid Parade. They could open for the Donnas! Coincidentally, our friend Rosalia, lead singer of Brazil's seminal all-girl punk band, Os Mercenárias, is making a comeback with the band at the moment. Grrrrl power! When the punk generation gets to have kids in college and is still punkin', the world is gonna frickin' CHANGE, maaan.

"CME, the largest U.S. futures exchange, today announced it will launch equity options on E-Mini Russell 2000 futures contracts." This kind of thing matters to me now.

BTW, if you ever sent the Frumps to Brazil, they would be billed as "As Largadonas" ...

Colin, my sister does have a college-age daughter and is still punkin', so I guess the time for the frickin' change has arrived.

And Frump is also trying to get to NYC in May for Mamapalooza. Have you got bunk space for a few rock&roll mamas?

Frump needs a place that isn't already booked-up during that time. (The dates are March 16-20)We would like to do two shows, one at night and one during the day for families. I'm starting to get the impression that during SxSW there are bands playing 24-7 in every nook and cranny in town. So get creative and help us find a space! Maybe a grocery store or a laundrymat?

You might want to see if Monkeywrench Books will be having anything that week. I will have as comprehensive a list as I can on once we get closer. I haven't gotten wind of any confirmed non-sxsw shows yet, though.

This is a random thought, spurred by Suzie's comment: have you considered The Little Deli on Woodrow in Crestview? They have plenty of outdoor space, a roof if it rains, and a vibe that might fit well with Frump.

I know their used to be a bunch of sxsw side projects that weren't affiliated, but I think most of them got sued. Thanks austin you have created a monster. Sorry I couldn't be of more help...I love the concept of FRUMP....sounds terrific.

I just ran across this article in USA Today. Congrats to your sister on the national press.

I've just recently started playing drums again now that my two kids are a little older. We're not focusing the band on being a bunch of dads even though 3/4 of us are married and 1/2 have kids.

We're also looking for some alternative venues for SXSW as well since we didn't really have it together to apply for the festival. I'll keep my ears open. It sounds like we're in a similar genre, although our lyrics aren't really "family friendly".

There is a bar on 6th street asking for people to drop off demos. It's not part of the official SXSW scene. Shit, I forgot the name of it, but it's right on the SW corner of 6th and .... You know, in the middle of things.
